This was my final major project during my master’s program. The problem I identified was how daunting the gym environment can be for beginners in training and fitness. Not everyone has the luxury of a personal trainer, and the unfamiliar environment can be intimidating. After extensive research and analysis, I realized I could harness AR technology to revolutionize ‘Online Fitness Training.’
I employed an agile methodology, making weekly refinements and following a UCD (User-Centered Design) approach. Throughout the project, I maintained a blog to document each stage, including my findings and analysis. Using Unity3D, C#, and Vuforia, along with 3D modeling, I developed and designed the application. By utilizing various lighting techniques, I demonstrated which muscles were being worked during different exercises.
The result was a prototype that showcased how AR can create a personalized virtual trainer experience, whether in the gym or on the go. The social media campaign for the application garnered some attention from Vuforia themselves. While it remained a prototype, it highlighted the creativity and potential of AR and Unity3D for future development.
